Leaders and stakeholders from across the political spectrum in Owerri Zone on February 15, 2026, converged in what has been described as a defining moment in the zone’s political history, culminating in the birth of Owerri Zone United.
The gathering, held at the residence of Prince Charls Amadi (Charlvon), attracted a broad cross-section of society, including political leaders, professionals, business figures, traditional rulers, academics, clergy, women and youth leaders, socio-cultural organisations, and citizens from various political parties and divides. The event was widely described as well packed, reflecting significant interest and participation across the zone.
At the end of the deliberations, the assembly issued a detailed communiqué stating:
“On this 15th day of February, 2026, a historic assembly of political leaders, professionals, business leaders, traditional rulers, academia, clergy, women & youth leaders, socio-cultural organizations, and citizens from all walks of life and political parties from Owerri Zone, Imo State, Nigeria convened at the residence of Prince Charls Amadi (Charlvon) wherein, OWERRI ZONE UNITED was birthed as the unifying voice of Owerri Zone. After deliberate discussions, we resolved and adopted the following:”
Firm Backing for Governor Uzodimma
The group opened its resolutions with a strong reaffirmation of support for Governor Hope Uzodimma and the Imo Charter of Equity.
“1. Support for His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma
We reiterate our unwavering support for His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, Executive Governor of Imo State, the courageous author and principal promoter of the historic Imo Charter of Equity. We also acknowledge the wisdom of the Imo State council of elders, the Clergy and the State House of Assembly for bringing the Charter into existence.”
Celebration of Broad-Based Unity
The communiqué emphasized the significance of the unity achieved among diverse political and social actors within the zone.
“2. Historic Unity of Owerri Zone Political and Social Structures
We commend the unprecedented unity among various political, leaders and groups, technocrats, administrators, social blocs, stakeholders, and interest groups across Owerri Zone, working together in strategic coordination. This unity reflects political maturity, sacrifice, and a shared understanding that Owerri Zone's destiny supersedes personal interests.”
Support for Leadership Transition Vision
Participants expressed alignment with the Governor’s broader governance philosophy, especially regarding leadership rotation.
“3. Respect for the Governor's Vision
We are aware of the Governor's vision for Imo State, where every segment contributes to leadership and development. We support this vision, particularly his commitment to a smooth transition to a new government in of Imo State to be led by an Owerri Zone person. We will partner with him and all stakeholders to achieve this.”
Call for Responsible Political Engagement
The group appealed for decorum and unity as political activities continue across the state.
“4. Discipline and Responsible political activities
We urge Owerri Zone sons and daughters to maintain civility in their political activities.
We urge our people to remain focused, steadfast and supportive of the Owerri zone Governorship project while praying for His Excellency, the Governor of Imo State State to be divinely guided in good health, wisdom and courage to fulfill this vision.”
Acknowledgment of Achievements
Governor Uzodimma’s administration was credited with significant strides in development and governance.
“5. Recognition of Transformational Leadership
We acknowledge Governor Uzodinma's remarkable achievements, including infrastructural renewals, institutional reforms, security interventions, and economic repositioning.
We salute his leadership which has impacted every corner of the state including the economic summit and recent historic recognitions of sons and daughters of the state at the 50th anniversary celebration of the creation of Imo State.”
Emphasis on Inter-Zonal Cooperation
In a message aimed at strengthening statewide harmony, the communiqué underscored collaboration among Imo’s three zones.
“6. Strengthening Brotherhood Across Zones
We will continue to strengthen cooperation and collaborations with our sister zones of Orlu and Okigwe. We shall continue to deepen trust, unity, and mutual understanding. We extend our brotherly and sisterly handshake to them.
Owerri Zone firmly believes that the progress of our State is paramount. To this end the peace, stability, and prosperity of the State depend on genuine collaboration amongst the three zones.”
Closing Declaration
The communiqué concluded with a clear pledge of continued partnership with the Governor:
“Conclusion
We therefore unequivocally reaffirm our united collective commitment to the authorship of the Charter of Equity by His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma.
We shall partner with him in the achievement of this vision.”
